Malkangiri: Cement slabs dumped on roads here for over two months were cleared Friday and the open drains were covered with these slabs. The action came following reports in Orissa POST and Dharitri.
The National Highway department ordered the contractor to clear the slabs following which the contractor covered the open drains and removed the slabs within 12 hours.
According to reports, open drains and cement slabs were lying on roads posing problems to hundreds of people. It would have created a mess during the ‘Malayabanta’ festival which is set to open December 6. Thousands of people will take part in the festival.
However, cement slabs meant to be used for covering the drain in front of the Collector’s office lay there for over two months.
The locals pointed out that these slabs had already caused problems for traffic and the situation was likely to aggravate during the festival.
Prior to drain construction, a design wall at Bandabakuli Sagar was constructed at a cost of Rs 20 lakh. That wall was again pulled down and in its place a drain was dug up.
