Rayagada, March 12: A 10-year-old boy, who was in a critical condition, was denied 108 ambulance service here after a doctor of the district headquarters hospital allegedly stopped the staff of the ambulance from shifting the boy to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur Thursday.
Saying that the ambulance would be used for shifting only those patients who have been put on ventilators, the doctor UK Rath asked the boy’s family members to make their own arrangements.
According to eports, Hemant Kantabansh of Goudakundam village under Rayagada Sadar block was admitted in the DHH after he complained of chest pain. The doctor that his liver was infected and he referred him to MKCG hospital. However, when the family members called a 108 ambulance to shift him to Berhampur, Rath stopped the ambulance staff from shifting the boy. He even said that anyone who wants to get such service should contact the collector.
This was the second incident in the district within a month in which patients couldn’t not get 108 ambulance service.
Earlier, a tribal woman of Dongria community had lost her life as the ambulance did not reach her village and she was shifted to Kalyansinghpur CHC by her family members by using a sling.
