Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate police Wednesday said they have cracked the Chandrasekharpur elderly doctor couple’s murder case.
“We have cracked the doctor couple murder case. We have identified the accused and have launched a search operation to nab them,” a senior Commissionerate police official said requesting anonymity.
“We have got substantial leads in the doctor couple murder case. Hopefully, we will nab the miscreants soon,” twin city police commissioner Rajendra Prasad Sharma said.
Commissionerate police sources said that two police teams have reportedly left for Andhra Pradesh, Phulbani and Nayagarh to nab the ‘identified accused’.
Police sources said the role of the elusive maid is being strongly suspected, as she has fled since the gruesome incident.
“Tikina of Phulbani has been absconding ever since the incident. She was one of the three maids working at the house of retired ophthalmologist Prafulla Mishra and his wife Sushma Mishra (VIM-608) in Sailashree Vihar. Tikina was married to a native of Ganjam and her husband runs a shop here. The duo was staying in Salia Sahi before fleeing the city. She had reportedly told the doctor couple that she would leave her job and had asked them to clear her pending dues.
‘‘Tikina, her husband, and a couple of their associates went to the house of the elderly couple November 15 morning. They are suspected to have attempted to loot when the duo might have offered resistance and might have killed them,” they added.
“The CCTV footage of a house (VIM-613) situated close to the house of the deceased shows that Tikina along with another woman had come to the couple’s house November 14 evening,” the sources informed.
Keeping in mind the sensitive nature of the murders of Prafulla and his wife Sushma, police are tightlipped about the investigations.
DCP Satyabrata Bhoi, who is heading the investigations, had earlier told Orissa POST that they had detained two domestic helps of the deceased for questioning, but the duo was later let off. On being asked about the third maid who is reportedly absconding, Bhoi said she had taken leave for some “personal work”.
