Doctor loses cool, tears patient’s prescription

Sajnagad: Tension prevailed at Nilagiri sub-divisional hospital in Balasore district after the doctor on-duty lost his cool and tore the prescription of a patient before leaving the hospital premises Monday night.

Locals, patients and their attendants expressed dissatisfaction over the doctor’s behaviour.

Sub Collector Aboli S Naravane, local MLA Sukanta Kumar Nayak, IIC Nalita Modi, sub divisional medical officer (SDMO) Dr Ajay Krushna Samal and Dr Amulya Das reached the hospital and brought the situation under control after holding discussions with the patient’s relatives and locals.

According to reports, Mrutyunjay Satapathy, 47, of Kahalia area under this NAC, was taken to hospital by his wife after he complained of chest pain. Dr Kashinath Panda attended him, prescribed some medicines and administered Mrutyunjay an injection.
When he complained about pain again his wife approached the doctor and said the injection wasn’t effective.

Hearing the complaint, the doctor reportedly lost his cool, snatched the prescription from the patient’s wife, tore it up and left the hospital without attending Mrutyunjay and other patients.

He went straight to his house after registering a complaint with the police.

Demanding action against the doctor, the people protested at the hospital premises. The situation was brought under control following the intervention of  the sub collector.
