Nabrangpur: Tension prevailed at Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital after a doctor allegedly slapped the father of a patient Sunday. The matter came to the light after the victim submitted a written complaint with the additional district medical officer (ADMO).
The doctor was identified as Chinmay Bal while the victim was Rajendra Khura. On learning the incident, the chief district medical officer (CDMO) called the two and condemned the doctor’s act. Later, Chinmay in the presence of Rajendra’s relatives, ADMO and media persons was asked to apologise for his act.
According to sources, Renuka Khura (22), daughter of Rajendra of Mela village under Papadadandi block, was admitted to the hospital due to sickle cell anemia and low hemoglobin. Chinmay treated the girl and administered blood to her. Later, he prescribed some medicines and asked Rajendra to fetch medicines.
However, Rajendra being illiterate failed to bring the medicines on time and apologised to the doctor. However, Chinmay got furious and manhandled Rajendra. He held Rajendra by his collar and slapped him six times on his face infront of his daughter.
He did not stop there. He also called for the security guard, asking him to throw Rajendra out of the hospital. A dumb-struck Rajendra did not utter a word and complained to the ADMO of Chinmay’s behaviour. On learning the incident Rajendra’s relatives gheraoed the hospital and demanded the doctor to be transferred.
Later, Chinmay was called and made to apologise to Rajendra. The situation was brought under control after he begged pardon and promised not to repeat such a mistake again. When contacted, CDMO said that the incident was true and the doctor had apologised for his act. He warned that stern action will be taken if such act was repeated.
