Puri: A dolphin washed ashore near the Marine Drive on the Puri-Konark road was rescued by locals and put back to the sea Tuesday .
According to reports, a few youths found the dolphin stranded. They immediately tried to put it back into the sea. “Despite many attempts, the mammal kept returning to the shore due to the high tides,” an eyewitness said.
Later, forest officials got to know about this and joined the youths in successfully guiding the dolphin back to the sea. Officials are yet to identify the dolphin species and establish the reason why it got stranded on the shore.
It is suspected that the dolphin might have strayed into the sea from the Chilika lake due to high currents.
