Nischintakoili, March 8: A woman, attempting suicide by hanging over domestic dispute, succumbed
during treatment at the community health centre (CHC) here in Cuttack district Sunday.
The victim was identified as Basanti Mallick (38) wife of Debendra Mallick in Haladharpur village under the police limits.
Basanti’s family members, however, termed her death as murder
and lodged a complaint with the
police station.
Police on receipt of the complaint seized the body from the hospital and sent it for post-mortem to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. A case was registered in this connection and further
investigations are on.
Police said Basanti, daughter of Gangadhar Mallick of Debaral village under Nemalo police limits, was married to Debendra 20 years ago. The incident occurred after she had a fight with her husband over some issue Saturday night.
Deeply hurt, she sneaked out of house in late night and hanged
herself from a tree. Family
members rescued and admitted her to the health centre where she
succumbed during treatment.
