Bhubaneswar: Chandrasekharpur police have cracked two house theft cases with the arrest of a domestic help and recovery of stolen gold and silver ornaments, valuables and cash, officials said Sunday.
The cases were registered following complaints from residents of Housing Board Colony and Kanan Vihar Phase-I, who reported theft of jewellery, expensive sarees and other household items from their homes.
The accused, Priyanka Raul, was working through an agency and had access to the complainants’ houses. Police identified her during the investigation and arrested her.
During verification of her belongings, police recovered several valuables suspected to have been stolen from the complainants’ houses.
Further investigation established links between the recovered items and the theft cases.
Police said the accused admitted to stealing ornaments and other valuables during questioning.
The recovery includes 14 pairs of gold earrings, 12 gold rings, a pair of gold bangles, a gold mangalsutra, four gold chains and a pair of gold anklets.
Police also recovered costume earrings, silver toe rings, anklets, bracelets, a locket, three silver coins and other articles.
“Two house theft cases were registered and the accused was arrested during investigation.
We request agencies to conduct character verification before hiring,” said Additional ADCP Sunaram Hembram.
