Domestic help verification on cards

Bhubaneswar, June 2: After creating a database of tenants in the twin cities, the Commissionerate Police is considering to build a database of domestic helps.
Twin city police commissioner RP Sharma told Orissa POST that the matter is being considered after police officials were urged by several residents to maintain records of domestic helps working at homes in the twin cities. “We have been urged during recent police-public interfaces to maintain records of domestic helps for better security. We are mulling to implement this. However, the verification of domestic helps will be entirely left to the choice of the employer, unlike the tenant verification system which was made mandatory,” the commissioner said.
So far, Commissionerate Police has collected details of at least 15,000 tenants residing in Bhubaneswar and of 7,000 tenants living in Cuttack. Several individuals have however criticised the Commissionerate Police saying the department was not taking action against landlords who were not furnishing details of their tenants.
