Double crown for Amrutjay

Bhubaneswar: Amrutjay Mohanty of Orissa clinched both the singles and the doubles titles in the boys’ event of the Championship Series (CS7) U-16 tennis tournament at the BTA Tennis Complex in Kolkata, Friday. This was Amrutjay’s 12th singles and ninth doubles nation title this season.

In the singles final, Amrutjsy defeated Rishi Jalota of Uttar Pradesh 6-2, 6-7 (6-5), 6-2 while in doubles it was just a walk in the park for Amrutjay and his partner Justin Panmei. The two thrashed Rishi and Kanav Goel of West Bengal 6-1, 6-1.

Amrutjay is a student of Farhan Khan who expressed satisfaction over his ward’s performance. “In singles Rishi was a tough opponent. So I am pretty happy the way Amrutjay dominated the first and last set. Technically he is correct. But he has to work a bit in his mental aspect,” said Farhan.

 KVS meet

The first phase of the 48th Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) Sports Meet concluded at the KIIT premises here Friday.

The second phase of the meet comprising kho-kho, judo, football and archery has already been started. Three thousand students across 25 regions of the country will participate in the second phase.

Results of Ist phase: (Badminton U-17) Ernakulam Region, Chandigarh Region, Jammu Region; (U-19): Ahmedabad Region, Jaipur Region, Chennai Region; (Volleyball U-19): Patna Region, Varanasi Region, Lucknow Region.
