Double crown for Kabir

Bhubaneswar: Kabir Hans of Orissa clinched the U-16 and U-18 boys’ singles’ title of the AITA-OTA Tennis Championship here, Friday. In the U-16 girls’ singles’ event, Rutuparna Chowdhury set up a title clash with her close friend Ameek Kiran Batth.
Kabir outplayed West Bengal’s Anurag Agarwal 6-0, 6-3 in the U-16 final and defeated Aditya Satpathy 7-5, 6-3 in the U-18 final. The under-16 final was a cakewalk for the Orissa boy as he broke his opponent thrice in the first set and twice in the second. However, in the U-18 final, Kabir had to face stiff resistance from Aditya in the first set. But in the second he strolled through easily to win the title.
In the U-16 girls’ singles’ semifinals, Rutu outclassed Shatavita Ghosh (WB) 6-1, 6-1 while Ameek snuffed out a strong challenge from Andhra Pradesh girl Asapu Jnanita 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
In the U-18 girls’ doubles semifinals, the pair of Rutu and Ameek sailed into the final after beating Priyam Kumari (Bihar) and Maheshwar Ashraya (TN) 6-0, 6-0. They will face Bihar girls Medhavi Singh and Ayushi Singh who defeated the AP duo of DS Mounika and Asapu Jnanita 6-3, 6-0.
