Bhubaneswar: Delhi Public School (DPS) rode on a goal each by Sudeep Mishra and Kartik Luthra to upset home favourites Govt Boys’ High School, Unit-VI in their opening round Group-D match of the 29th MCL Cup Inter-School football tournament here Wednesday.
Lanky striker Sudeep broke the deadlock in the 18th minute with his powerful strike to give DPS a 1-0 lead. However, Unit-VI got a golden chance to equalise in the 21st minute but the opportunity went in vain as a long-ranger hit the cross-bar only to the disappointment of the players.
DPS doubled their lead in the 38th minute when Kartik curled in a powerful shot to seal the match in their favour. DPS captain Rishav Parekh was adjudged the player of the match.
Earlier in the day, Times Gurukul held Govt Boys’ High School, Unit-II to a goalless draw in their Group C match thus completing their league engagements with four points from two matches.
