Drive against criminals, anti-socials

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police will launch a state-wide special drive, ‘Daman’, from September 21 to September 30 to keep a close watch on criminals and anti-social elements and prevent unlawful activities during the upcoming festive season.

The special campaign is aimed at maintaining peace and public order during the festivals and taking stringent legal action against criminals and anti-social elements, police said. During the 10-day campaign, close surveillance will be maintained on the activities and movements of criminals and anti-socials.

Execution of non-bailable warrants and preventive legal action will be given priority, while raids and arrests against those involved in illegal activities will also be intensified. Special focus will be placed on illegal liquor trade, drug trafficking, illegal arms and explosives, police said.

Strict legal action will also be taken against extortion and organised crime as part of the campaign. To check the movement of criminals, blocking and border sealing operations will be carried out in vulnerable border areas.

District police, Railway Police, Commissionerate Police and other concerned police units will work in coordination to implement the campaign across the state, police headquarters said.
