Nabarangpur, Feb 8: Driven by superstition, the family members of a woman, who has been suffering from post-delivery complications, have refused to admit her to a
hospital though her condition
is critical.
According to reports, Lalita Chalan of Dharnabeda in this block had delivered a baby a few days ago. But, after delivery her condition turned critical. An ASHA worker posted in the area called a 108 ambulance to the village to admit Lalita to the district headquarters hospital. But, her family members were not in favour of sending her to hospital as they believed her illness was caused by ‘black magic’.
They even said there was no need of sending her to a doctor and claimed only a black magician can cure her aliment. Though the woman’s husband was in favour of taking her to the hospital, other members of the family did not give their consent to this and rather asked the ambulance driver to go back. Despite efforts, the ASHA worker failed to convince the
family members that Lalita needs medical attention.
Due to lack of treatment, the woman is suffering from severe pain and fighting for life.
