Jashipur: Wildlife safety measures in Similipal sanctuary are all set to go high-tech as the authorities of Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) are going to deploy drone cameras to track and monitor the movement of animals and check illegal activities.
Foresters and forest guards of Baripada, Rairangpur, Karanjia, Similipal tiger conservation project and Balasore are being trained on how to make use of drone cameras to track movement of animals, provide emergency treatment to wounded animals, rescue animals from ditches and put curbs on timber smuggling. Members of Vana Surkhya Bahini, a forest protection group, are also receiving training at a three-day camp underway at Ramtirtha.
Expert trainers from New Delhi Abhishek Narayan, Debabrata Sarkar, Rudraprasanna Mohapatra from Bhubaneswar, Dr Khanin Chaumin and Dr Piyush Soren from Baripada are imparting the high-tech training to forest officials. The trainers demonstrated the use of drone cameras.
Regional chief conservator of forest, Similipal, Harish Kumar Bist inaugurated the training camp in which assistant conservator of forest Arun Kumar Biswal, Jahsipur STR ranger Ramakant Majhi, eco-tourism ranger Sita Majhi and guides were present. PNN
