New Delhi: The enrolment of students from different countries studying in Odisha came down to 200 in 2017-18 in comparison to 309 in 2016-17, according to a report of All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) for 2017-18 released Friday by the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry.
As per the AISHE report, a total of 200, out which 174 male and 26 female students are currently studying in the state. As many as 14 international students are pursuing PhD degrees, 46 Post-graduate courses while 140 enrolled for Under Graduate courses. These figures are based on the information furnished by the states and educational institutions during the survey.
The report also claims that Odisha is among the top five states when it comes to enrolling the polytechnic students that stands at 93,907 while it is also among the top six states in the country in terms of admission of nursing students. In Odisha, a total of 15, 534 nursing students are pursuing their studies.
Most of the teaching faculty posts in higher education department are dominated by men. The Gross Enrollment Ratio on the other hand has increased subsequently in the state from 21 per cent to 22.0 per cent in 2017-18. Students in the age group between 18 and 23 years were included in the survey.
On the other hand, the Gender Parity Index (GPI) of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students pursuing higher studies in Odisha was found disappointing . As per the report, Odisha has featured among the three states at the bottom of the list faring just 0.73 in case of SC students. Though, the GPI of ST students has been increased to 0.75 from 0.74 during last academic session but the state remained among the bottom four in the country.
