Berhampur: A drunk youth fell into an uncovered drain and died near Gandhinagar under Town police limits here, Thursday.
The deceased was identified as D Nagu (35) of Bijipur, Bada Sahi area in the city. Police registered a case and sent the body for autopsy. Preliminary inquiry indicated that the youth might have been heavily drunk and died after falling into the drain.
Locals, however, alleged that the contractor after constructing the 20-feet deep drain had left it uncovered without putting slabs on it, due to which the youth died.
The youth was reportedly returning home after attending the cremation of a relative at the local Nilakantha crematorium. It is suspected that he might have fallen into the drain and died.
