Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida Tuesday called for an integrated approach to women’s safety and empowerment, stressing that both must go hand in hand with strong institutions, effective implementation and collective responsibility. “Women’s safety and women’s empowerment cannot be addressed in isolation. They must move together through strong institutions, effective implementation and collective responsibility,” Parida said while inaugurating the Shakti Summit here. She said the summit provides an important platform for states and the Centre to share experiences, strengthen convergence and work towards ensuring that every woman can live with safety, dignity and opportunity.
Organised by the National Commission for Women (NCW), in collaboration with the state government, the summit brings together senior officials from 22 states and Union Territories to discuss strategies for strengthening women’s safety, protection and empowerment. NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rathkar said sustained collective action and stronger institutional mechanisms were essential to advance women’s safety and empowerment across the country. The summit will focus on sharing successful state-level interventions, identifying implementation gaps and strengthening institutional collaboration to address emerging challenges concerning women’s safety and protection.
