Eagle rests atop Patitapaban Bana of Puri Srimandir

Puri: In an unusual incident, an eagle was seen perched atop the Patitapaban Bana (Flag) of the Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri, reports said Saturday morning.

Flying of a bird above the Patitapaban Bana and close by area near the Jagannath Temple is a rare sight. However, sources said, the eagle not only flew atop the Flag but also perched atop the flag for about 10 minutes.

The eagle which later flew away was first spotted by a devotee who had gone for a visit in the temple. Soon after, the incident turned to a matter of gossip among devotees and servitors in the temple who regarded it as a bad omen.

With rise in petitions filed at Supreme Court against various issues in the Srimandir including the missing of Ratna Bhandar keys and ban on collection of dakshina ‘offerings’ by the SC, devotees said the sight of the eagle atop the Patitapaban Bana was a bad sign.
