Bhubaneswar, Sept 4: ECoR women’s team defeated Urmila Football Academy (UFA) 3-2 via tie-breaker in the final to win the title of the Jayant Mohapatra Memorial football tournament at the Unit-VI Ground here Sunday.
The match ended in a goal less draw in the stipulated time. In the ensuing tie-breaker ECoR could convert thrice of their five chances, while UFA could strike twice. Bhubaneswar Sports Hostel and KISS were the other teams in the tournament. The champions ECoR team bagged a cash prize of `4,000 along with a trophy, while UFA took home `3,000 and the runners-up trophy.
Earlier, ECoR thrashed KISS 4-0 in the first semifinal and UFA edged past Sports Hostel 3-2 in the second semifinal to enter the summit clash.
Sunrise win
Ambika Lakra struck twice as Sunrise Club thrashed Kishore Club 5-1 in a match of the FAO first division super league at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, Sunday.
Rigen opened the scoring for the winning side in the ninth minute while Soosairaj doubled the lead in the 12th minute. Tofan Naik got one back for the Kishore Club six minutes later. Pankaj Sona made the scoreline 3-1 striking three minutes before the first half.
After the change of ends Sunrise players continued with their attacking approach and Ambika (68th, 71st) scored twice in quick succession to seal the fate of the match.
In another encounter, SAI- STC and Sunshine Club played out a drab goalless draw.
