Bhubaneswar, March 28: East Coast Railway (ECoR) blanked Bhubaneswar Sports Hostel 2-0 to emerge champions of the All India Chandan Cup Women’s football tournament, which concluded at the Baramunda Ground here Saturday.
ECoR dominated the first half completely scoring twice. Sasmita Ekka drew first blood as early as in the eighth minute. Lochan Munda doubled the lead in the 22nd minute and the team established a 2-0 lead during the lemon break.
After the change of ends, ECoR adopted a defensive strategy to prevent the opposition attack successfully. Bhubaneswar Sports Hostel players created few opportunities but could not pierce the strong defense of ECoR.
Former minister Suresh Kumar Routray, Karateka Valena Valentina and actress Jina Samal joined as guests and distributed the prizes. The champion team bagged a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and a trophy, while the runners-up took home Rs 10,000 and a trophy.
BSNL enter final
BSNL defeated TCS by 67 runs to enter the final of the EPL Cricket League here Saturday. Opting to bat first, BSNL notched up a challenging total of 230 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated 40 overs with Sumeet Mohapatra (61) and Priyabrata Pradhan (55) hitting half centuries. Bibek Das (5/49) picked up a five wicket haul to restrict them to some extent.
TCS on the other hand, lost wickets at regular intervals in their innings and despite a resolute innings of 78 from Asutosh Das, could manage only 163. Tukuna Sahu (2/31) bowled well and also effected a run out to be adjudged man of the match for his all round display.
