ECoR, Sundargarh earn emphatic victories

Cuttack, April 2:  East Coast Railway (ECoR) and Sundargarh registered massive victories against their respective opponents in the Nalco Cup State hockey championship at the Barabati Stadium here Thursday.

Riding on double hat-tricks by Deepak Lugun and Arbin Barla, ECoR thrashed Paradip Port Trust (PPT) 9-1 in the first match. Deepak (39th, 45th, 52nd and 68th minutes) scored four goals including a hat-trick in the dominating show by the Railways team. Arbin (second, 38th and 41st minutes) also achieved a hat-trick. Sunil Toppo (33rd) and Rajin Kandulna (43rd) were the other scorers for ECoR in this completely one-sided game. Erness Surin (38th) of PPT got one back.

However, the first half was more or less an even affair with the Rail team scoring only a single goal. However, in the second session there was a goal rush as the Paradip defenders lost their way completely against the speedy opposition forwards.

In the second match, Sundargarh drubbed Mayurbhanj 7-1. Amit Chirmako (third, 52nd), Sudhir Kujur (11th, 56th) scored a brace each, while Tikei Kujur (fifth), Ashwin Kujur (57th) and A Tete (68th) struck once each. Bharat Bhusan Sethi of Mayurbhanj (67th) got the only consolation goal.

The players of Sundargarh were much more quick with the ball and rarely allowed the opposition players to settle down. It was a dominating show by Sundargarh.
