Bhubaneswar/Dhenkanal: The ED arrested businessman Ratikanta Rout in Bhubaneswar in connection with a case of financial irregularities, officials said.

Rout, a resident of Kalarahanga, was involved in the stone quarry and crusher business in Dhenkanal.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had registered a case against him in 2020.

“Rout was arrested Thursday during interrogation at the ED office in Bhubaneswar,” an official said.

The arrest comes against the backdrop of a bribery case involving a former ED official in the state.

The CBI had arrested Chintan Raghuvanshi, then deputy director of the ED in Odisha, for allegedly accepting a Rs 20 lakh bribe from Rout in return for giving him relief in the case.

The ED officer had allegedly demanded Rs 2 crore from the businessman.

Raghuvanshi was arrested by the CBI along with a middleman in May last year after the alleged bribe payment was made.
