Mahakalapada: A man was seriously injured after being attacked with a sharp weapon by his elder brother at Babakarpur village under Mahakalapada police limits in Kendrapara district, a source said Thursday.
Locals first admitted the victim, identified as Gagan Sahu, to the Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack, his father Kalandi Sahu said.
According to the source, around 10pm Wednesday, Kalandi, who had gone to bed after dinner, heard screams from the adjoining room. When he rushed out, he found his younger son, Gagan, bleeding from a cut on his back. Witnesses said Ranjan fled the spot immediately after the attack.
Several youths from the village arranged an auto-rickshaw and rushed Gagan to the hospital, from where he was referred to Cuttack.
Police reached the spot late at night and detained the accused, Ranjan Sahu, for questioning.
In his FIR, Kalandi alleged that two days earlier, Ranjan had threatened to assault his younger brother over some dispute.
Mahakalapada police said Ranjan was taken into custody for interrogation. Inspector-in-Charge Rajendra Kumar Mahapatra, along with a scientific team from Kendrapara, visited the spot and began an investigation. Police questioned family members and local residents in connection with the case.
