Elephants destroy houses, crops

Banta:  A herd of elephants went on a rampage and destroyed houses along with crops in Patakana village under Agarpada police limit of Bhadrak district late Saturday night.

According to reports from the ground, the house of Kartik Ghadei has been damaged in the incident. Several others complained of elephants destroying their standing crops and consuming stocked paddy.

This has led to panic among the villagers.

Forest department officials have been late to respond to the situation despite repeated calls, alleged the villagers. A vehicle belonging to the department has been detained by the locals who have been asking the department to take permanent steps to drive the elephants away.
