Sajanagad: Elephants went on a rampage in Siadimal panchayat under Nilagiri block in Balasore district Saturday night. The elephants damaged houses of Raju Singh and Ujwal Singh while five members of the two families were injured after walls were pulled down by the animals.
The two families are now homeless. The injured were Mugi Singh, Guri Singh, Bablu Singh, Gopinath Singh and Bhuri Singh. The pachyderms strayed from Kuladiha sanctuary and entered the village in the wee hours. Forester Umakant Jena visited the village Sunday.
People in Nilagiri were panicked and spent sleepless night for the last several weeks. The forester said he has talked to the ranger and the affected families will be compensated.
