En route to second marriage, man arrested

Angul: Police arrested Wednesday a married man when he was on his way to tie the nuptial knot once more with a different woman at Hindol in Dhenkanal district.

Abani Rout of Kasara village in Dhenkanal, who is wedded, had intentions to marry a woman from Majhika village in Angul district.

However, Abani’s first wife came to know about her husband’s intention and he lodged a complaint at Hindol police station. Acting swiftly on the complaint, police rushed to the spot and arrested Abani, who en route to a temple in Majhika to solemnize his second marriage.

Abani however, defended his act. He said he had already registered his marriage with the woman from Majhika. He alleged that he was forced to marry his present wife.

Meanwhile, social worker Shantilata Sahoo said, “The complainant had approached us seeking our intervention on her husband’s second marriage.”

Sahoo reported the matter to Hindol police station.  When the woman again approached Sahoo on the day of her husband’s second marriage, the latter along with the police waylaid him following which the man was arrested.

Hindol Inspector In-Charge Jugal Das said Abani had married Aparajita (first wife) around six months back and the couple was staying together. Quoting Aparajita, he said Abani planned the second marriage because of dowry.
