Chandikhol: Drama unfolded at Sunduria panchayat under Dharmasala police limits in Jajpur district when a man climbed atop an under-construction water tank to end his life.
The incident occurred Wednesday noon. Dharmasala police Thursday informed that the man had been rescued on the same day. “The man has been identified as Basant Kumar Jena. We have initiated a probe into it to ascertain the reason why he had decided to end his life,” the police said.
However, local residents ascribed his suicide attempt to a family dispute.
Local residents Wednesday noon witnessed the strange episode reminding them of a scene from Hindi movie Sholay where Veeru (Dharmendra) is seen atop an overhead water tank, threatening to end his life.
Locals immediately informed the police and fire department, fearing for the worst. Later, fire personnel and police reached the spot. The fire personnel tactfully engaged him in talking and managed to bring him down.
Police investigation is underway to ascertain the reason that forced him to take such a decision.
