Bhubaneswar, July 11: The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Monday took suspended assistant director of Factories and Boilers (medical), Motilal Gouda, on a four-day-remand afresh for questioning him in connection with the health check-up scam.
Earlier, EOW officials had taken Gouda on six-day remand July 4.
Sources said the agency might also interrogate Gouda’s wife about the financial transactions.
“Officials of several companies have told EOW that Motilal reportedly sent forged notifications to them through mails and pressurised them for compliance of the same. In several cases, Gouda called the officials of these companies and asked them to send their employees to the laboratories partially owned by his wife,” they added.
EOW officials had arrested Gouda from Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh July 3.
“A case was registered against Gouda and his associates for forgery, cheating, criminal conspiracy, and causing disappearance of evidence. Gouda had allegedly gone to a lab in Kharvelnagar area and stolen several documents and information from computer that could have landed him in trouble. He and his associates had issued fake gazette notifications to several labs and nursing homes in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Talcher for health check-up camps. So far, four persons have been arrested in connection with the case,” said an EOW official.
Gouda had gone into hiding before he fled to Andhra Pradesh after Orissa High Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea June 24.
