Estimates panel for expeditious execution of medical college work

Balasore: The estimates committee of the state Assembly directed the district administration to expedite the construction of the Government Medical College building at Remuna in Balasore and complete it before a team of Medical Council of India visits the college.

The members of the committee headed by former minister Sanjay Dasburma included MLA Pranab Kumar Balabantray, MLA Jiban Pradip Das, district planning board chairperson and MLA Aswini Patra and MLA Nityananda Sahu.

The committee members reviewed the progress of various development projects in Balasore Thursday. The team also made field visit to take stock of the progress of the ongoing projects in the district in the presence of collector Pramod Kumar Das, SP Niti Sekhar, PD of DRDA Trilochan Pradhan, civic body chairperson Alok Kumar Sahu and officials of various departments   

The committee stressed on expeditious renovation and expansion of the approach road from the NH to the medical college, completing the work of its main gate and streetlighting.

The estimates team later visited the district headquarters hospital and asked the patients about the medical facilities.

The members also examined the quality of food being served at Aahaar Kendra on the premises of the headquarters hospital. They elaborately discussed about effective implementation of various projects and schemes.

The team directed the RWSS officials to complete the ongoing drinking water projects and submit utilisation certificates at the earliest. The committee underscored the need for using river water instead of groundwater.

The committee directed the labour department to ensure registration of labourers in the stipulated time and to provide them necessary government benefits.

The members wanted to accelerate the labour registration even at the block level.

Reviewing the activities of the works and rural development departments, the committee members asked the officials to prepare project proposal for Biju Setu Yojana and expeditiously complete tender process of the approved projects.

“The projects should be completed as soon as possible along with submission of utilisation certificates, Or else, next phase of funds will not be made available to the district,” the committee observed.

The committee also discussed the survey on the proposed Gopalpur-Digha coastal highway under Bharatmala Yojana.

Former minister Dasburma said that the officials’ concerned should be in contact with the NHAI and seek a change in the project report, if necessary, in the larger interests of the district as far as this ambitious coastal highway is concerned.

The committee took up discussion on effective initiative to make the district open defecation free (ODF), execution of proper drainage system, rural housing schemes, minor irrigation projects, industrial sector and sanitation.
