CHSE authorities have decided to recruit teachers from different degree colleges,
non-government, aided colleges and varsities for Plus II evaluation

Bhubaneswar: There would be adequate number of teachers to evaluate Plus II answer sheets by Monday, claimed higher education department sources here. The sources have confirmed that only eight per cent of answer sheets have been checked till now.
The department has reiterated that it has decided to make alternative arrangements in the absence of agitating Block grant teachers.
“The current situation has compelled us to go for alternative arrangements. We have decided to recruit teachers from different degree colleges, non-government, aided colleges and universities for Plus II evaluation. The department has requested all degree and post-graduate institutions Thursday and expects the evaluation camp will have sufficient teachers by Monday,” said Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) chairman Basudev Chhatoi. However, the response from various colleges has been likewarm till Friday. It was estimated that only 20 per cent of colleges have responded to the higher education department’s alternative arrangement.
The protesting block grant teachers, however, welcomed the decision and said the government move is not feasible and may have an adverse impact on the quality of evaluation.
“We are not against alternative arrangement. But this decision would affect the quality of evaluation as these teachers will not have experience in Plus II checking,” said Non-government lectures and employees’ association president Golak Nayak.
However, the CHSE head said measures have been taken to ensure quality evaluation. However, one group of protesting block grant teachers termed the CHSE’s decision as ‘impractical’.
“The first phase of Plus II evaluation was expected to be completed by April 13. But if the situation continues like this it will require at least 56 days to complete the first phase checking papers.
The plan to engage college and university teachers is impractical as they are busy with invigilation and evaluation schedules of their respective institutions,” said Pabitra Mahala, president of 448 category aided college block grant lecturers and employees’ association and non-government block grant teachers’ association.
