Ever thought why devotees worship Lord Shiva on Mondays?

As per Hindu mythology, there are different days dedicated to worship Gods and Goddess. Monday is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Sambhunath.

However, do you why devotees worship Lord Shiva on Monday? Keep reading to know the reason why people worship Lord Shiva on this day.

Let’s know the reason:

Devotees fast on Monday which is known as Someshwar Vrat. It has its own religious importance. The moon is also worshiped on this day. The word Someshwar has two meanings. The first meaning is – Som means Moon. The second meaning of the word Eshwar is god (Lord Shiva), who is also worshipped by Lord Somdev or Chandra.

Lord Shiv’s bliss is so perfect that Lord Somdev orbits around him. Somdev presides over intoxicants as well as the moon. Originally, Lord Brahma had banished Lord Somdev to the outer atmosphere for getting the Devas drunk. This is why Brahmins, who emulate Lord Brahma refrain from taking stimulants.

In modern times, Lord Shiva is associated with bhang and Mondays but these attributes originally belonged to Lord Somdev or Chandra.

According to belief, Somdev worshiped Lord Shiva only after this fasting on Mondays. So, this tradition continues till today.

Because of this many Sadhus and Saints and devotees including Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva.
