Executive engineer with 309% DA held

Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths Wednesday arrested an R&B executive engineer after finding him in possession of disproportionate assets (DA) amounting to 309 per cent of his known sources of income.

Arabinda Mohanty, executive engineer of the R&B Sub-Division at Betanati in Mayurbhanj district, was arrested along with contractor Biswanath Pal, whom Vigilance described as his “active partner”.

Both were produced before the Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada.

The anti-corruption agency carried out searches at multiple locations linked to Mohan ty following allegations that he possessed DA.

During the searches, Vigilance unearthed a three-storey building measuring around 3,500 sq ft at An Gargadia in Baleshwar and a two-storey building measuring around 1,800 sq ft at Balianta in Khordha, belonging to Mohanty and his family members.

The agency also detected a five-acre farmhouse at Basantapur in Baleshwar, with two fish ponds and a poultry farm, besides 23 high-value plots — 21 in and around Baleshwar town and two at Balianta near Bhubaneswar.

“Rs 10.57 lakh in cash, around 800 grams of gold, bank deposits of Rs 69.69 lakh, a car, two two-wheelers and household articles worth Rs 12.32 lakh were also found belonging to Mohan ty and his family members,” the agency said.

The searches also took vigilance officials to Pal’s residence in Balasore, where documents relating to 20 plots allegedly held by Mohanty were recovered. Some of the documents were reportedly found buried underground and retrieved af ter digging.
