Expired drugs administered to TB patient at SCBMCH

Cuttack: In an appalling incident, a girl suffering from tuberculosis is experiencing a harrowing time after she was administered expired drugs allegedly by a staff of SCB Medical College and Hospital four months ago.
Sources said the girl has been admitted to SCBMCH for treatment and the chief district medical officer has assured of a probe into the incident.
The girl hailing from Rajabagicha area in Cuttack was admitted to SCB August 21 this year. The doctors had diagnosed her with tuberculosis and prescribed her certain medicines. The girl continued the medicines without being having any knowledge that the vials have crossed the expiry dates following which she developed serious health complications.
The matter came to light after the girl consulted another doctor in the locality who conducted a check-up.
However, the doctor was suspicious about the girls’ poor health even after she went though medications and asked her to show the medicines to him. The doctor checked the medicine strips and found that the vials had expired in September 2017. The vials have eventually affected her lungs as she was taking them on a regular basis.
When asked, chief district medical officer Biswakalyan Patnaik said, “An investigation will be initiated soon to find out the fact.”
