Cuttack, April 10: Saheed Sporting registered a resounding 90 runs victory over Mukteswar Club in the inaugural match of the Pradipta Memorial Inter-Club cricket tournament at the SCB Ground here Friday.
After putting up a formidable score of 245 for the loss of seven wickets in the stipulated 40 overs, Saheed Sporting restricted the opposition to 155 all out. Nishikant Patnaik (70), Rajesh Dhuper (66) and P Roshan Kumar Rao (43) batted well for Saheed. Pretty Singh Chauhan (3/49) bowled well for Mukteswar.
Only Chandramani Biswal (48) could offer some resistance for Mukteswar when they batted. Suman Mohanty (3/24) did the bulk of the damage in the top order and Mukteswar could never recover from that initial set back.
DPS Kalinga advance
DPS Kalinga eked out a narrow 14 runs victory over Ratnakar Vidya Mandir (RVM) to enter into the quarterfinals of the PVR Murthy Inter-School cricket tournament at the Bhuvanananda School of Engineering Ground here Friday.
DPS, batting first scored 153 riding on good knocks from Ashutosh Agrawal(37) and Shreyash Goutam (21). Dinesh Kumar Lenka (4/35) and Ranjan Behera (3/45) bowled well for RVM.
In reply, RVM could manage only 139 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 25 overs. Suvendu Lenka (48) fought a lone battle, but could not find support from others.
Inter-School football
Veteran Football Players’ Association (VFPA) will organise the 21st FAO Debabrata Kar Memorial Cuttack City Inter-School football tournament at the Pyari Mohan Ground here April 11-23. Ten schools from Cuttack will participate in this tournament.
Coaching course
The three-day long second grassroots football coaching course of AIFF was inaugurated at the OCA Conference Hall here Friday. AIFF grassroots football instructor Anju Turambekar imparted training to 36 coaches of the state.
