Nuapada:In a bizarre incident, a youth allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself to the ceiling of a house after being unable to fulfill his girlfriend’s demand for an iPhone, reports said.
The uncanny incident has been reported from Khariar area in Nuapada district. The deceased has been identified as Subham Tandi. Police registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for autopsy while a probe was launched.
According to cops, the deceased youth, identified as Subham was in a relationship with a girl, a native of Bolangir district, since long. The girl was blackmailing the boy with her demands every now and then.
Being crazily in love with her, Subham bluntly fulfilled all her demands. Recently, the girl had demanded an iPhone from the boy. While he had initially agreed to buy her an IPhone, he later expressed his inability to gift it.
Following this, the girl reportedly started blackmailing him threatening to dump him. Unable to bear the blackmail and torture, the boy committed suicide by hanging himself to the ceiling of his house.
“The boy was in a relationship with the girl who had been blackmailing him. She had demanded an iPhone as a gift, but when the boy was unable to fulfill her demands, the accused threatened to end their relationship,” Kailash Chandra Sethi, IIC of Khariar Police Station said.
“During investigation, we seized the boy’s phone. When we went through the WhatsApp chats between the two we came to learn that the girl had been threatening the boy to get expensive things,” Sethi added.
The IIC further said that the girl was arrested after police got several vital evidence against her. A case was later registered against the girl under Section 306 and 201 of the IPC. She will be forwarded to the court after her health examination gets over, informed Sethi.
