Delang/Sakhigopal, May 21: The wooden cart carrying Lord Jagnnath’s holy log (daru) Thursday reached Biragobindpur. The cart was halted at Teishipur Wednesday. It was pulled towards Biragovindpur with religious fervour Thursday Moring. Thousands of devotees gathered on the road to have a glimpse of the Lord’s daru. Security personnel along with locals pulled the cart amid beatings of cymbals and blowing of horns.
A colourful procession was organised to welcome the daru-laden cart. Women devotees showered flower petals on the holy log. The road was covered with rangolis and new sarees.
Police threw a security cordon around the cart to avoid untoward incidents. Volunteers of Satyabadi Gurukul swept the road clean to welcome the holy log. Artistes sang devotional songs and performed Gotipua dance to add extra colour to the procession.
The cart reached Biragovindpur through Birapurushottampur, Buddheswar, Jashuapur, Satasankha, Shiriapur, Patnaikia, Chanagorada, Chaudabathia, Kadua, College Square, Badakanjia, Uanshdiha, Sanakanjia, Sakhigopal bus stand, Jaypur Square, Nuagaon, Block Square, Panchukera and Dandasahi.
Shree Jagannath temple administration arranged lunch for the servitors and security personnel accompanying the cart on the premises of a school.
The scorching sun and extreme humidity did not deter locals to offer puja to the holy log.
Crackers burst & conch blew
A few enthusiastic youths of Teishpur and Jaypur burst crackers while others blew conchs while participating in the holy log procession.
Gravels removed
Villagers tried their best to remove gravels from road to facilitate a smooth passage of the devotees and sankirtan mandali people.
Devotees with a difference
A few devotees were the point of attraction due to their unique ways of devotion towards Lord Jagannath. Manas Ranjan Parida of Kharipadia in Jagatsighpur was seen travelling in the daru procession by donning the attire of a saint. Bhairabanand Senapati, a devotee from Mayurbhanj, was seen following the holy log procession on a two-wheeler.
On the other hand, a few devotees recited the Gita and smeared chandan tipa (sandalwood paste) on the foreheads of locals.
