New Delhi-based Amaiza Dance Group’s performance  captivated the audience

Cuttack, Jan 3: The second day of the sixth Cuttack Mahotsav, an international dance and music festival, saw some scintillating performances by artistes not only from across the country but also from abroad.
The day started with Tanya Saxena’s Bharatanatyam performance. Tanya is from Gurgaon. The performance by a non-Oriya left the audience spellbound.
“It was exciting to see a non-Oriya performer showcasing such deft moves of a dance form which is the pride of Orissa”, said Kanti Patnaik, a resident of Link Road.
Tanya’s performance was followed by a Veena recital by YG Srilatha from Bangalore. Srilatha’s performance was followed by an Egyptian dance presentation by Najma and Jones from Italy and Alica Kuchtova from Slovakia.
Anuradha Naimpally from the USA performed a Bharatanatyam recital. She said that Indian classical dance forms are popular among Americans and non-resident Indians.
The Kathak performance by Simran Godhwani from Bangalore was different in mood and appeal from the other dance performances of the day. “Kathak is a dance form with an appeal altogether its own and has distinct moves compared to Odissi or Bharatanatyam,” said Simran.
The Manipuri dance performance by Baisali Sarkar from Kolkata also earned plaudits. It was followed by fusion dance performed by the Amaiza dance group from New Delhi.
“It is heartening to see three different classical dance forms of the country on one stage,” said Abani Patnaik, a lecturer and resident of Mangalabag. He said that with youngsters still interested in performing classical dance and music, the government should promote the arts with vigour and enthusiasm.
“Mindless dance performances in which the aim is to showcase acrobatics should not come in the way of the promotion of classical dance forms, which are the pride of India,” he said.
Day three of the Mahotsav will see more Bharatanatyam, Odissi and Kathak performances.
