FAO Women’s Football League in July

Cuttack, April 26: The FAO Women’s football league will resume this year in July. The decision was taken during the Football Association of Orissa (FAO) council meeting at the OCA conference hall here Sunday. The women’s league was not conducted in 2014.
Preparations for the upcoming National U-15 Sub-Junior Girls’ football championships were also discussed in the meeting. Various committees were formed for the successful conduct of the competition to be played at the Barabati Stadium May 8-June 4.
It was decided that the FAO first division league will start in the third week of June. Altogether 26 teams will participate in the event, which carries a prize purse of `1,50,000. The FAO second division league will be played in July.
Orissa beaten
Hockey Orissa received a 0-10 drubbing Sunday at the hands of Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) in a Pool-A match of the Vth National Senior Women’s A- Division Hockey Championship at Saphai, Uttar Pradesh.
RSPB dominated the match completely and scored five goals each in both the halves. Orissa players tried their best, but could not score a single goal. Orissa will meet Delhi in their next match Monday.
Hockey Gangpur lose
Hockey Gangpur were spanked 0-3 by Uttar Pradesh in a semifinal match of the Vth Senior National Men’s Hockey Championship (Divison A) in Pune, Monday. Sunil Yadav (seventh, 32nd, 44th minute) scored a hat-trick to give UP a comfortable victory. Hockey Gangpur will face AISPB in the third-fourth place classification match.
In the other semifinal, riding on a hat-trick by Yuvraj Walmiki- Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) scraped past Air India Sports Promotion Board (AISPB) 6-4 to set up a final clash with UP. Amit Rohi Das (44th, 52nd), Malak Singh (28th), Yuvraj Walmiki (30th, 35th, 54th) scored for RSPB, while Gaganpreet Singh (17th), Sameer Dad (40th), Bikram Pillay (44th) Arjun Halappa (47th) struck for AISPB.
Inter-Hostel football
Balasore, Sundargarh, Bhawanipatna, Keonjhar, Combined-A won their respective matches in the Inter-Hostel football tournament at the Satyabrata Stadium here Monday.
Balasore drubbed Combined-Q 3-0, while Sundargarh edged past Bolangir 2-1. In other matches, Bhawanipatna pipped Combined-B 1-0, and Keonjhar defeated Phulbani 1-0 while Combined-A blanked Combined-F, 2-0.
