BHUBANESWAR: The college stadium, in fact, the entire XIMB campus reverberated with the chant of Farhan…Farhanwhen actor-singer Farhan Akhtar got onto the stage with his band for the live performance Sunday evening. The show was part of cultural fest ‘Xpressions’ organised by Xavier Institute of Management here. The spectators who had become restless waiting for the actor for over three hours heaved a sigh of relief as they saw Farhan sing ‘Main aisa kyun hoon’ from his film Lakshya starring Hrithik Roshan. The song reflected a part of his professional life which was at the crossroads some time ago. The number ‘You know what I mean’ he sang next was from his film ‘Rock On 2’ ‘You know…’ was followed by an electrifying presentation ‘Socha Hai’ from the movie ‘Rock On’. The audience too sang and danced with the performer on stage.
The multi-talented artiste also sang ‘Chun le asmaan’, a song dedicated to women, who suffer discrimination and social stigma as victims of rape. He also invited all youngsters to join his initiative and take a pledge on the website: therealmard.orgcreated in 2013. Men Against Rape and Discrimination, also known as (MARD), is a social initiative designed to create awareness towards gender equality and respect for women. He expressed his gratitude to the audience in the packed stadium for cheering him up. Earlier, two versatile artistes – Rohan and Vaani Behl – entertained the gathering. Rohan, who is renowned for beat-boxing, produced “instrumental music” with vocal cords. Vaani made the audience dance after she performed a few songs at the event. Akhtar, who was appointed as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador to South Asia in November last year, has been bringing forth issues of gender equality to the centrestage by advocating attitudinal changes in the concept of masculinity.
