Farmer found dead; family cries murder

Jharbandh: A 50-year-old farmer was found dead in a pool of blood in his agricultural field at Dabha village under Jharbandh police limits in Baragada district. His family alleged that he had been murdered, police said Friday.

The deceased, identified as Ramlal Kalet, had gone to his field Thursday to harvest paddy and take it to the threshing floor. However, he failed to return home even late into the night, prompting family members to search for him. They later found him lying in a pool of blood in the field and suspected that he had been murdered.

Ramlal’s wife, Kanti Kalet, lodged a complaint at Jharbandh police station. Acting on the complaint, inspector-in-charge Sanjay Kumar Parida initiated an investigation.

Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Pandab Sabar and a forensic team also visited the spot and collected evidence. A possible land dispute is suspected to be the motive behind the alleged murder, although police have not confirmed this.

A murder case (169/26) has been registered at Jharbandh police station, and further investigation is under way.

The deceased is survived by five children, four of whom are unmarried, while one daughter is already married. The family is now struggling to cope with the loss of its sole breadwinner.
