Baripada/Rajganpur: In two incidents, a farmer was killed and seven members of another family were seriously injured as they were struck by lightning amid the heavy rainfall in the state. The deceased was Sido Hansdah of Ghumala village under Baripada block in Mayurbhanj district.
Police said that in the first incident, the farmer was returning home from his farm. Suddenly, there was heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder. Hansdah was struck by lightning while he was running to his home to escape the rain. A case of unnatural death has been registered. The body was sent for post-mortem.
In the second incident, seven members of a family, struck by lightning, received severe burn injuries. Locals rushed them to the Rajgangpur government hospital. Their condition was critical as per first reports.
