Balasore: The Balasore district headquarters hospital (DHH) Sunday turned into an ‘aquarium’ filled with knee-deep water in all the wards following incessant rains from Monday morning.
The wards and corridors of the DHH had the looks of a lake with water all around. The torrential rain left most parts of Balasore town waterlogged disrupting normal life. Photos of the DHH filled with water are doing the rounds in social media platforms.
The patients had to go through untold problems due to rainwater. Mostly, patients of surgery and diarrhea wards had a tough time. Meanwhile, the medical staff could be seen wading through water to provide care to patients. There were reports that several electrical machinery had to be shut down.
Meanwhile, vehicular movements came to a standstill in the town due to water-logging. Vehicles and commuters in the coastal town were stranded on roads. The rise in water level in bridges and canals triggered a flash flood like situation in most parts of the town.
Water flowed two to three feet above the ground submerging bridges. Heavy rains compounded the woes of homeless people and animals. Locals feared the situation would worsen if the rainfall continued for another day. Meanwhile, the Met department predicted more rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning in nine districts.
