Bhubaneswar: An FIR has been registered against BJP MLA Jayanarayan Mishra for allegedly abusing a police officer and threatening to set the police station on fire in Sambalpur. As per the complaint, the Town police station Inspector in charge (IIC), Subrat Kumar Meher, received a phone call April 3, while he was discussing the arrangements for the upcoming Hanuman Jayanti with other officers.
The caller allegedly identified himself as Jayanarayan Mishra and started abusing Meher. He also threatened to burn down the police station over the seizure of some swords the day before. Meher recorded the entire conversation on his mobile phone for evidence and registered an FIR against Sambalpur MLA Jayanarayan Mishra.

According to reports, some people organised Jhanda Yatra from Dalaipada to Peerbaba Chowk via Kunjelpada Chowk in Sambalpur town April 2 without any prior permission from the respective authority. They allegedly exhibited swords in the name of culture and tradition in a rash and negligent manner, which may endanger human life. In this connection, a case was registered under sections 189(2)/189(4)/190/125 of BNS r/w section 25 of the Arms Act, and two swords were seized.
BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty during a presser slammed the state government alleging inaction against MLA Jayanarayan Mishra and said, “Law and order situation is deteriorating day by day in Odisha. Now, the police have to file an FIR to make them safe from BJP.
Jayanarayan Mishra is openly threatening the police, yet no action has been taken against him. Previously, he had also hit a female police officer, and now this incident proves the BJP is scared to take any action against Mishra. Even the ruling party ministers are avoiding commenting on this matter. We condemn this incident.”
