Fire breaks out at Nalco

Talcher: A fire broke out at the fifth unit of captive power plant (CPP) of the National Aluminium Company (Nalco) at Talcher town in Angul district Friday morning.

According to a fire brigade official, the incident took place at around 8:00am.

Preliminary investigations suggest that there has been extensive damage to plant equipment in the mishap. While five units of Captive Power Plant (CPP) were burnt, eight others were partially damaged. That said, plant employees managed to escape unhurt.

On being informed, fire brigade official reached the spot and doused the flames. Senior plant authorities also reached the spot in order to take stock of the situation. Further investigation is on.

The generator transformer of Nalco CPP caught fire and torched the transformer fitted at unit-5 of the plant. The cause of fire is said to be short circuit, though a detailed investigation report is awaited.
