Fire breaks out in IOCL’s refinery

Paradip: A major mishap was averted after fire broke out in the IOCL refinery here Tuesday.

The fire presumably broke out from a petrol pipe near the gate no-1 of the refinery and soon fumes emanating from it spread into Paradip Township in north and Triclochanpur, Mahala and Gobindpur villages in south.

The flames were so high that firefighters had to struggle for three hours to control the blaze. However, no causalities or loss of properties were reported during the incident as the refinery authorities banned the entry people into the premises.

The fire was brought under control after the refinery authorities plugged all the pipelines carrying oil and gas and informed the fire brigade personnel.  The state fire brigade personnel as well as those from PPL and IFFCO doused the flames.

A similar incident was reported three days before the refinery’s inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi February 7, 2016.  PNN
