Cuttack: The fire services department Friday issued notices to 26 private hospitals and nursing homes in three districts for not properly adopting fire safety and fire prevention measures.
The notices were issued to 10 private hospitals and nursing homes in Dhenkanal district, nine in Nayagarh and six in Jagatsinghpur following inspections carried out by several teams of the fire officials.
Sources said each team comprising 10 officials carried out the inspections in the three districts and found that majority of the hospitals and nursing homes were not properly following fire safety norms.
“If the healthcare institutions will not adopt adequate fire safety measures in three months, legal action will be taken against them,” DG (fire services) Bijay Kumar Sharma said.
“Besides, more than 2,000 buildings have been identified in Cuttack and notices will be served on them soon,” Sharma added.
Sharma further said it is mandatory to seek the permission of the fire service department to construct a building beyond 15 metres of height.
Notably, the Orissa fire prevention and fire safety rules have been reinforced in the state since October 4.
According to the rules, the fire service officials have been given the power to inspect fire safety measures and take legal action against the violators.
