Keonjhar: Five members, including two minors from a family, were taken ill after consuming mushrooms collected from jungles at Kantalasuan village under Telkoi block in Keonjhar district Saturday night.

They have been identified as Paban Naik (50), wife Budhei Naik (45), two daughters Suchitra (19) and Sabitri (10) and son Satyabrata Naik (15). All have been undergoing treatment at Keonjhar district hospital.

According to reports, Paban went to the nearby jungle to graze his goats and when he saw mushrooms he collected them.

The family members had rice and mushroom curry for dinner and went to bed.

The doctors said all of them are out of danger.

During rainy season, a variety of mushrooms grow on their own in jungles. While some types of them are used as food, some others are said to be poisonous. Doctors said the people living near jungles should be more careful while choosing mushrooms.
