Five girls fall into river in Ganjam, four rescued, one still missing

Shergarh: Tragedy of a huge nature was averted when four of the five girls were rescued after they accidently slipped into the Rushikulya river flowing through the Kanjiama village in this block of Ganjam district, Sunday. However, one of the girls is still missing and sources claimed she might have drowned.  The missing girl has been identified as Sili Behera (13).

According to locals, the five were conducting Maa Khudurikuni puja. To collect water for the religious function, they went to the banks of the Rushikulya river.  However, they slipped into the river and were immediately swept away.

The agonising screams of the girls caught the attention of the locals who immediately alerted the Fire Department personnel. They reached the spot and rescued four of the five girls. Search for Sili Behera is still on, though chances of her survival appear dim.

The four girls who were rescued have been rushed to the Hinjilikatu hospital. All of them are in critical condition.

The cops reached the spot and a probe has been launched in connection with the accident.
