Five looters held, several cell phones recovered

Bhubaneswar: The Government Railway Police (GRP) at Bhubaneswar Railway Station Sunday arrested three looters and seized two dozen of mobile phones from their possession here. The accused persons were identified as Simanchal Padhi alias Gudu, 26 and Rabi Behera alias Babi, 19 of Pradhan Sahi in Buddha Nagar area under Laxmisagar Police station limits, Akash Das Rachipur village in Jajapur.

According to sources, the accused trio late Saturday night stole the bag of one Manoj Dash who was waiting to board the Coromandal Express to go to his home located at village Surai under Golantara Police station limits in Ganjam. The stolen bag contained Rs 10,000 in cash, mobile phone and important documents.  Subsequently, the GRP lodged a case (57/19) and with the help of Railway Protection Force carried out raid on the areas adjacent to the railway station. The trio was nabbed near the Reliance mall while they were trying to flee. Later, during further interrogation, police recovered around 24 high-end mobile phones and cash around Rs 15,000 from their possession.

Meanwhile, in another incident, two bag lifters were arrested by the GRP police Sunday. The miscreants snatched away the bag from a commuter who was travelling by the Howrah-Chennai Coromondal Express Sunday morning. The bag contained one mobile phone, Rs 10,000 in cash and important documents.   The accused persons were identified as Biswajit Panda of Pradhan Sahi in Buddha Nagar area and Tapash Mishra of village Balia in Sahadebkhunta in Balasore.
